Corby Community Arts – our mission statement

To realise the creative potential and develop artistic appreciation in the people of Corby and Northamptonshire in order to encourage the development of the community through increase self-confidence, communication and expression, through the promotion of and participation in creative activities.

A potted history

We were founded in 1979 and immediately became very involved in the ROSAC (Retention of Steel-making at Corby) campaign, creating marching banners, printing newsletters and campaign materials, and presenting street theatre and music performances. Documenting all this through black and white photography, and using that as a creative means for group development, quickly became central to our activities.

  • In the years since, we have engaged in (in  no particular order)
  • large-scale documentary dramas
  • circus skills and juggling conventions
  • youth music festivals
  • carnival
  • many publications – books, magazines, newsletters
  • exhibitions of photography and other artforms
  • exploration of local heritage
  • creative writing
  • crafts and textiles

and many more . . .

In all these we have worked with Corby people to encourage, develop and showcase their creativity and artistic skills.

We have initiated much of this ourselves, but are also grateful to many partners in arts and community development who have enabled us to engage in a wider range of activities. Also to a variety of funding bodies who have supported us over the years.

More details of our varied history will be found in our Archive page.
